I cancelled Boxycharm!

I cancelled my Boxycharm!

Boxycharm is one of those subscriptions that when it’s good, it’s real good.

I have received tons of full size makeup, brushes and skincare throughout my months of Boxycharm; some that I love and some that I love not so much lol

Here lately (since about November?), my Boxycharms have been on the “love not so much” side. I think Boxycharm is becoming more and more popular with the ridiculous steal for all of these full sized items, so they are having to ship out more and more as well. As a result, the boxes just aren’t wowing me anymore.

This will sadly be my last month of Boxy.

I do have Charms that I need to spend, but nothing there excites me either.

What’s next? I’m looking into a few other subscriptions to fill that void. I have even resubscribed to ipsy, Birchbox and the Allure Beauty Box for now. (these are just temporary)

Designer Subscription

Hey y’all, today I am sharing my not-so-slight obsession with handbags. I have always owned multiple handbags that I change up every so often and carry with me everywhere. My family has always ribbed me about this, but have since come to accept it.

I am also a huge subscription addict. So, naturally, when I heard there was a handbag subscription, I HAD to try it out. Enter: Luxy Purse

Luxy Purse is a monthly subscription that delivers a new designer handbag (inspired by up-and-coming designers). Each month is a surprise and promises to leave you in awe. There are two options: gold and platinum.

The Gold option is $39.95 a month + free S/H. The purses are worth $150+. Use promo code 50OFF to get your first month of Gold for only $19.97. The Platinum option is $79.95 a month + free S/H and includes purses valued at $400 and up PLUS a free purse charm ($20 value). Promo code 50OFF will get your first month of Platinum at $39.98.

BONUS: Each month you are a member, you are entered to win an authentic Gucci purse.

I just received my second month of Platinum Luxy Purse and here are my thoughts:

It arrives in this very oversized cardboard box. There is a chic welcome card right on top and your purse of the month is wrapped on top as well.

Each shipment comes with a welcome card including social media information and contact information.

The purse is nowhere near half the size of the box it was shipped in. Since it sits on top of the packing paper, I don’t imagine this to be a “safety” feature.

This is what’s left after you’ve removed the welcome card and handbag: a box full of waste.

On to the actual handbag now.

This month’s bag is a dark gray crossbody bag with lots of fringe on the bottom. The stitching on the front of the bag is very appealing and boho, but the fringe is not doing it for me. It doesn’t seem to go together here.

The upper flap of the bag opens to a very small inner compartment (I did not get a photo of this) that is somewhat hard to see in to.

I am currently loving these oversized outside pockets on the back of handbags lately though!

I don’t hate this purse, but it’s not my favorite and I likely will not use this.

Luxy Purse does mention that if you are not satisfied with your purse, call the Customer Care team to receive a hassle-free exchange or refund.

This will likely be the last month of my Luxy Purse subscription. While I do love handbags and would like to receive a new one each month, I do not feel that this is the subscription for me (esp. at $80 a month!!). I am always on the hunt for more gorgeous handbags!

There is a promotion going on RIGHT NOW until May 28th for a “completely FREE 3-night vacation for every new subscriber”.

UPDATE: I did just sign up with a different email to test this and have received no notification indicating this free trip… I will keep an eye out for any news though.

UPDATED UPDATE: I just received my other Luxy Purse in the mail and still have no notification about this free trip so I think it’s safe to say, if this was a thing, it’s not anymore.

This was my first Luxy Purse handbag and I love it!

Bleach Blonde Haircare Routine

Hey guys! So I’ve been bleaching my hair like crazy lately and, through it all, my hair is looking and feeling better than ever even without haircuts!

Since I get so many compliments and questions about my hair, I figured I would dedicate a post to my routine.

I will say that I know my haircare routine is A LOT, but I only wash my hair once a week (on Sundays) so I can handle the extra time I spend on it when I do.

I use Paul Mitchell’s Tea Tree Special shampoo and Clairol’s Shimmer Lights shampoo to wash my hair.

I use Paul Mitchell’s Tea Tree Special conditioner and Aussie’s 3-Minute Miracle Moist Deep Conditioning Treatment to condition, treat and moisturize my hair.

I also use Living Proof’s Prime Style Extender Hair Primer to get my hair ready for the week and eSalon’s Perfect Ending Leave-In Conditioner for extra conditioning as well as color protection.

I told y’all it was a lot, but it is SO worth it.

First, I mix my tea tree and purple shampoos together and leave that on for about 2-3 minutes. After rinsing that out, I add just purple shampoo to my hair and rinse after about a minute or so. This double dose of purple shampoo will also make my highlights look freshly done.

Next, I like to mix my tea tree conditioner and 3-minute miracle treatment together and let that sit for about 3 minutes or so and rinse. (All of these times are estimates; I usually wash my face or shave or something while letting these sit.)

I towel and air dry my hair when finished. I really only use a blow dryer once in a blue moon, and only when it’s absolutely necessary.

While my hair is still a little damp, I like to brush it out and add my style extender and leave-in conditioner. I then brush this out and let it air dry the rest of the way overnight.

The next morning, I straighten my hair with Eva-NYC’s Healthy Heat Ceramic Styling Iron (I also have it in metallic pink!) and go about my day. I only have to run my straightener through my hair for touch-ups throughout the week.

Since I don’t wash my hair for the rest of the week, I keep a can of amika Perk Up Dry Shampoo with me just in case. Though, I typically don’t have to use this until about the 4th or 5th day, if at all.

Everyone’s hair is different so this routine may not work for everyone, but these are the products and tools that I have found that work best for me. I have long, medium-thick, dry, color and heat damaged hair.

Alright guys, that sums it up. If you have any questions about these products or recommendations, leave a comment below!

21 Days of Breaking my Bank

Hey guys! I have never really been a huge Ulta fan. I mean, I like that I can ship anything and everything beauty-wise from both, higher-end and drugstore brands, but it’s never been my go-to for makeup. I just feel like the people at Sephora are always more apt to help you and are way more friendly.

Anyway, as Ulta’s 21 Days of Beauty rolled around, I shopped my little heart (and wallet) out and snagged a few new products to try out! The sale is over now, but see what I’m trying out below. (Sephora’s Spring Bonus sale is going on NOW though!!!)

I missed the first week, but I got in on the action for a few products that really stood out to me.

I snatched up tarte’s Maneater Self-Sharpening Liner (originally $20, on sale for $10), but winded up missing Stila’s Huge Extreme Lash Mascara (orig. $23 and on sale at $11.50).

A coworker was kind enough to convince me to get itCosmetics’s Naturally Pretty Vol. 1 Eyeshadow Palette ($42/$21), but again, we missed out on the Dr. Brandt Pores No More Pore Refiner Primer ($45/$22.50) that I really wanted to try.

While the Smashbox Photo Finish Primer Water ($32/$16) did interest me, I ultimately passed on this.

I got the Too Faced Mascara Melt-Off ($17/$10) and was also convinced to try itCosmetics’s Your Skin But Better CC+ Airbrush Perfecting Powder SPF 50+ in Light ($35/$17.50). I also wanted to try a few of the Mario Badescu products, but winded up passing on these as well.

I grabbed an Urban Decay Perversion mascara ($22/$11) for my coworker because I already have quite a few samples of this and needed to meet $50 for free s/h….

I actually ran over to Ulta to get the bareminerals Lash Domination Petite Precision Mascara ($19/$9.50), but sadly didn’t realize it was an online only promo so I passed on this too.

And last but not least, I purchased two of the ABH Brow Wiz Pencils in Blonde ($21/$10.50) because I’ve been wanting to try it out for a while now and a Clinique 3-Step Intro Kit ($19.50/$9.75) for drier skin types.

Alright, that’s all I bought this go-round. What did you get? Let me know in the comment section!

Also, I’m testing out these products now so let me know if you’d like reviews on any of them!

Too Faced Chocolate Chip

Hey y’all! I’m back (kinda). Work has taken over my life lately, but I wanted to do a little review on a new palette!

I bought the Too Faced Chocolate Chip palette because I’ve always wanted to try the Chocolate Bars, but have always been a little too cheap to drop $50 on a palette (silly, I know since I have a couple of the Naked palettes….).

Anyway, this little palette is the perfect size to keep in your makeup bag for on-the-go touch ups. What I love most is that it’s ALL matte.

Even for such a small palette, you get quite a few (eleven, to be exact) shadows ranging from cools to warms. There are more cooler shadows than there are warms in this palette, but it’s still a good mix for many different looks!

This palette still has Too Faced’s infamous chocolate scent and blend very well!

The shades are listed on the back of the palette as well.

Do any of y’all have this palette? What do you think? Leave me a comment below and let me know! 😘

fresh Birthday Gift

Hey guys! First off, I want to apologize about the lack of posts this week. I have been ridiculously busy with birthday shenanigans and whatnot.

Anyway, I stopped by Sephora last Friday just to get my makeup done and decided to pick up some tarte Rainforest of the Sea.

While checking out, the clerk asked me which birthday gift I’d like to try out. Since I had already received the Marc Jacobs one from my other Sephora, I opted for the fresh one this time.

The fresh birthday gift set comes with a cleanser and a mask.

I was excited to try this out because my skin is always in need of hydration lately and I could always use new cleansers.

Soy Face Cleanser – $15 to $38
The cleanser doesn’t smell terrible and comes in your average sample size tube.

I used the cleanser on its own the first night I got it home and it removed my makeup nicely, my skin felt nice afterwards; a little dry, but nice and clean.

Then I woke up the next morning with a huge breakout on my chin and one forming under my nose and using this was the only thing I’d done differently.

I decided to forego the cleanser and put on a spot treatment the next night.

Rose Face Mask – $62

The face mask looks like a jar of preserves or marmalade in a thick, jelly-like substance. To be fair, it has actual rose petals in it. It smells disgusting!

I did use the rose preserves (mask) the next morning and, honestly, I didn’t really feel a difference. It still smelled horrible while I was applying it in the shower and all the while it was on my face.

It says to leave this on for about 5-10 min, but I probably left it on closer to 15-20 min and still no major results.

All in all, I won’t be using these skincare items again and I don’t recommend them.

I’m going to pass these on to my sister (aka my product Guinea pig) and I might update with her results later.

You know the drill, let me know if you tried these. Did you like them? Leave me a comment below!

PINCHme Box #2

Hey guys! My April PINCHme has finally come in! I feel like I say that every time, but it really takes ages for these boxes to arrive.

Anyway, this month gave me the most sample opportunities out of the 3 months I’ve been a member.

If you’re not familiar with PINCHme, it’s a sampling service that allows you to try out new products relevant to you for free. All they ask in return is that you answer a few questions about each sample after you’ve tried them. Samples can range from food, medicine, skincare and beauty, pets and more! You can read more, check out my first box and learn how to sign up here.

These are the samples I was able to get in April’s box:

Skinny Pop Dusted Dark Chocolate Popcorn – $4.29

Garnier Whole Blends Honey Treasures Repairing Shampoo and Conditioner – $4.49 each

Garnier SkinActive Clearly Brighter Brightening and Smoothing Daily Moisturizer SPF 15 – $14.99

Sunology Natural Sunscreen SPF 50 – $14.99

Shea Moisture Peace Rose Oil Complex Sensitive Skin Mud Mask – $14.99

Bonus Sample: Eucerin In-Shower Moisturizer – $9.40

So that’s all the samples I received in April’s Sample Box! ZzzQuil LiquiCaps were also offered again, but I opted out of those since I don’t like or use a product like that.

I will be trying out all of these soon so let me know if you’re interested in more info or updates on specific products.

Also, if you’ve tried any of these products–you know the drill–please let me know which one in the comments section and tell me what you do or don’t like about it. Thanks x

tarte Rainforest of the Sea Hydration Review

Hey y’all! So I’ve been eyeing (and slightly obsessed) with tarte’s Rainforest of the Sea collection since it came out. So I picked up the Make A Splash Hydrating Skin Savers kit from Sephora!

This kit is $10 and comes with very mini sizes of Marine Boosting Mist, Deep Dive Cleansing Gel, and Drink of H2O Hydrating Boost.

Marine Boosting Mist – 2.5 oz. for $25

It’s a 4-in-1 primer, setting spray, hydrating must and skin refresher. It promises to restore your skin’s natural radiance and hydration and extends your makeup for 12 hours.

I can say that I was very skeptical beings that salt has more of a dehydrating effect, but after wearing, I can safely say I really like this! It made my makeup look nice and last longer and it doesn’t dry me out at all.

For size reference, this spray is 2.5 oz. which is just over half of Urban Decay’s All Nighter Setting Spray ($32).

Also, this smells like you’re literally spraying yourself with a can of Sprite! It’s weird, but I like it.

Deep Dive Cleansing Gel – 5 oz. for $25

It’s a gentle cleanser that will remove impurities and even waterproof makeup.

I did have a little bit of a hard time removing mascara (as I always do), but with a little work it can be done. This cleanser is very gentle and didn’t add anymore breakouts so I’m thankful for that! It also makes my skin feel very clean and hydrated.

Drink of H2O Hydrating Boost – 1.7 oz. for $39

This is a lightweight gel moisturizer to help moisturize dry, dehydrated skin.

My favorite. This is the one item from this line I’ve been majorly eyeing. I love skincare.. Anyway, this moisturizer is a gel texture (much like the Laneige Water Sleeping Mask that I love so much) and goes on soothingly. It doesn’t take long to absorb and sits under makeup very nicely!

These products are exclusive to Sephora.

GlamGlow Super-Mud Clearing Treatment Review

Hey guys! I’ve owned the GlamGlow Super-Mud Clearing Treatment for a while now, but never really had a use for it (thanks ipsy)

I recently tried out the fresh Soy Face Cleanser and had a breakout pop up the next morning. So it was the perfect opportunity to try out Super-Mud as a spot treatment overnight.

The next morning, I woke up, rinsed it all off and went about my business. The spot was still elevated a little, but the redness and most of the swelling was gone!

Then the morning after that, I woke up with no evidence that there was even a breakout in the first place!

I truly believe that this GlamGlow treatment did wonders for my breakout in less than 2 days! Now, if only I’d had this years ago!

This retails for $69, but you can use coupon code WELCOME15 for 15% off your first purchase on GlamGlow’s website.
